Talks on dealing with chronic illness at Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center

Hunterdon Prevention Resources will present “Take Control of Your Health” at the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Center, 2100 Wescott Drive. These workshops will be held on Mondays, Jan. 9 through Feb. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Take Control is intended for individuals, or their care givers, with a chronic condition such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain or anxiety. This 2-hour program is held each week over a six-week period. The workshops will help you understand the problems caused by your condition, manage your health condition and learn activities for better general health. These workshops do not deal with each chronic disease, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, individually.

However, you will learn how to solve problems, how to deal with emotions, how to breathe better, how to relax, how to deal with pain and fatigue, how to have healthy eating habits, how to communicate with others, how to use medications correctly, how to manage depression, and how to work with your health care professional.

Good health is soundness of body, mind and spirit. To live a healthy life with a chronic condition means working at overcoming the physical and emotional problems caused by the disease.

To register for the program, or for more information, contact Cathy Canterino, prevention coordinator at HPR, at 908-782-3909 or via e-mail at ccanterino@hunterdonprevention.com.

HPR is dedicated to promoting healthy choices and preventing substance abuse and violence through education and counseling. For confidential help or for services or programs, call 908-782-3909 or e-mail to info@hunterdonprevention.com.
